To provide End-of-Life Care service in residential setting: from exploration to reflection. (The Implementation and evaluation of the Embracing the setting Sun Project)

Death is a stage of life that everyone must go through. However, when one is in the process of dying, people around him/her may refuse to accept its happening, or try encouraging them unrealistically to hope for keeping alive. Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Jockey Club Rehabilitation Complex  concern the needs of residents with terminal illness and trying to give them the dignify and quality care until the end of their life. This research conducted from 2008 to 2009. We are so glad that Dr Amy Chow of Hong Kong University leading the research voluntary. Its aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of end-of-life care service for residents with terminal illness. Briefly, the research result assured its effectiveness especially in providing psychological support and to enhance quality of life. Besides, it also reflected the importance of service providers’ attitude and value in providing the service.

The research result was announced to the general public through a seminar held on 20 March 2009, with an aim to promote the public’s concern to the needs of the people with terminal illness.
