History
As the cost of living keeps rising in Hong Kong, the numbers of elders living in poverty has increased. Many elders would cut down on their meal cost and their health is thus affected. Moreover, elders who lack of self-care ability requires canteen service of DECC or NEC which however has long waiting lists. In view of the above, the Yiu Tung Community Kitchen is established for providing discounted nutritious hot meals for elders in order to relieve their financial stress and enhance their quality of life.
Objective
- To relieve the financial stress of the frail elders with financial difficulties and poor social support network living in Shaukeiwan, and to raise their awareness to the importance of health
- To provide a social platform for elders to widen their social support network
- To mobilize young old to assist in the kitchen operation making contribution to the community
